Abstract
ABSTRACT Utami,Faidatul. 2023. The Effect of Time Exposure to Hydrogen Sulfide Gas (H2S), Knowledge and the Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on Respiratory Disorders to Scavengers at Supit Urang Landfill (TPA) Malang City. Thesis. S1. Environmental Health Study Program. Widyagama Husada College of Health and Science. Malang. Advisors: 1. Beni Hari Susanto,S. KL., M .KL., 2. dr. Rudy Joegijantoro, MMRS. Landfills have a very important function, but can have a negative impact on decreasing environmental quality because piles of garbage produce various pollutants that can cause air pollution. One of the pollutants produced is Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) gas. One group at risk of respiratory distress is the scavengers who work in landfills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of time exposure to Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) gas and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on respiratory disorders to the scavengers at Supit Urang landfill in Malang City. The research design was quantitative with an observational analytical approach using a cross sectional study design. The sample in this study was 60 respondents taken by using random sampling method based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Test of time exposure effect and the use of PPE used ordinal regression tests. The results of statistical tests shows that there are 2 variables affecting respiratory disorders, namely time exposure to H2S (p = 0.035), and the behavior of using PPE (p = 0.001). The variable that has no effect is knowledge of PPE with a value (p = 0.476). While the results of respondents who experiences low respiratory disorders is 0 respondents, moderate respiratory disorders are 41 respondents and those who experienced high respiratory disorders are 19 respondents.
