Abstract

ABSTRACT Putri, Elsy Herninda Yaudilla. 2023. Differences in Mortality of Aedes Aegypti Mosquito Larvae Using a Decoction of Green Betel Leaves (Piper Betle L) and Papaya Seeds (Carica Papaya Linn). Thesis. S1. Environmental Health Study Program. Widyagama Husada College of Health Sciences. Malang. Advisors: 1. dr. Rudy Joegijantoro, MMRS, 2. Devita Sari, ST., MM. Aedes Aegypti is a pathogen vector causes the Dengue virus, in which it also causes Dangue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). The eradication of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae which commonly used by the general public is chemical insecticides. The use of chemical insecticides can cause resistance on the Aedes Aegypti mosquito but poses risks to human health and the environment. Therefore, we need a larvicide that is effective but safe to use, it is larvicide which made of natural ingredients. Green betel leaves (Piper Betle L) and papaya seeds (Carica Papaya Linn) are plants can be used as natural larvicides for Aedes Aegypti mosquito larvae because the contents of green betel leaves and papaya seeds contain natural compounds which function as larvicides, namely Saponins, Tannins, Flavonoids, and Alkaloids. This research aims to determine the difference in the number of mortality on Aedes Aegypti mosquito larvae using boiled green betel leaves and papaya seeds. This type of research is a pure experiment with a posttest design with a control group (posttest only control group design) which uses several concentrations of green betel leaf decoction, namely 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5%. Then the concentration of boiled papaya seeds is 1%, 1.5%, 2% and 2.5%. Based on the results of this research, it found that there are no difference in the number of mortality on Aedes Aegypti mosquito larvae using boiled green betel leaves and papaya seeds, as seen from the One Way Anova test results with the significant value of 0.632 > 0.05. However, based on the results obtained from observing the number of deaths of Aedes Aegypti mosquito larvae based on the time period, boiled papaya seeds with a high concentration is more effective in killing larvae than using boiled green betel leaves. It can be concluded that decoction of green betel leaves (Piper Betle L) and papaya seeds (Carica Papaya Linn) has no difference in killing mosquito larvae but is able to kill Aedes Aegypti mosquito larvae at high concentrations. It is expected that further research can develop by testing other larvae by species and using other materials for comparison.
