In recent years, there are significant changes of society’s behavior either for their lifestyle pattern or sanitary standard. However, in rural area the situation is slightly different, it has been proven by many research paers or journals that one of major problems of society in village areas is defecation habbits.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the first pillar community-based total sanitation program in Kidal Village, Kecamatan Tumpang, Kabupaten Malang Descriptive research design, qualitative approach, data collection were done through observation and interviews with informants. Data analysis in this study includes data collection, data analysis, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the research are input consisting of human resources: all informants have never attended training, village funds: health operational assistance. The guidelines: decree of the minister of health of the republic of Indonesia no 852/KEMENKES/SK/IX/2008, facilities and infrastructure: adequate, providing information : counseling, the process consists of planning: identification of locations, strengthening of the first pillar community-based total sanitation program, organizing: coordination with cross-sector and cross-programme, implementation: triggering, supervision: health workers, output namely Open Defecation Free village: award charter. So that other villages that have the same characteristics as Kidal Village can immediately apply as a village to stop open defecation.
