Abstract

ABSTRACT Sumarsono, Edi. 2019. Analysis of Factors Affecting Hospital Arrival Time among Stroke Patients in Bangil Regional General Hospital (RSUD Bangil). Thesis. Nursing Program of Widyagama Husada School of Health Malang. Advisors: (1) Frenky Apryanto, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. (2) Abdul Qodir, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. Background: Acute stroke requires prompt treatment within the first sixty-minutes until three hours after the onset. However, late hospital arrival time has become the main obstacles, since less than 29% of stroke patient can reach the hospital within the first sixty-minutes after the attack. This phenomenon has not shown any improvement for over the last two decades. Objective: To determine factors affecting hospital arrival time among stroke patients in Bangil Regional General Hospital. Method: This was a cross sectional study. It was conducted during August 2019 in Neurology Ward in Bangil Regional General Hospital. Bivariate analysis used Chi Square test and Fisher test, and multivariate analysis used logistic regression. Data were collected using structured survey-sheet and questionnaire. Result: Among 36 subjects, it was found that there was 22 subjects (75%) who have family members with stroke that arrived at the hospital >60 minutes after the attack. Fisher test concluded that all of independent variables have no correlation with hospital arrival time (p>0,05). Four independent variables were included in logistic regression, and it was found that family stroke-awereness (p=0,045; OR 6,620) and distance to hospital (p=0,052; OR 6,264) were statistically correlated with hospital arrival time. Conclusions: There was a high incidence of late hospital arrival time among stroke patients in Bangil Regional Hospital. Family stroke-awereness and distance to hospital were found affecting hospital arrival time among stroke patients in Bangil Regional Hospital. Sugestions: Health education regarding stroke warning signs and urgency of early hospital arrival after stroke attack is needed to improve patients and their family members response to stroke. Hospital should also expand the emergency medical system network to primary care service, especially in the remote area.
