Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of slow deep breathing on the blood pressure of the elderly with hypertension at the Al-Islah Blimbing Nursing Home, Malang. Method: Research design was True experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The samples used were 30 elderly in which 15 elderly were in the treatment group and 15 elderly were in the control group. The sampling technique was probability sampling with total sampling. Result: It was obtained that the mean blood pressure of the treatment group before slow deep breathing was 149.86/89.20 mmHg and the control group 151.93/88.40 mmHg, both of which included stage 1 hypertension. The results of the average blood pressure of the treatment group after slow deep breathing were 122.13/73.86 mmHg (pre-hypertension) and the control group 144.60/86.20mmH was included in stage 1 hypertension. There is a difference in the mean blood pressure before and after slow deep breathing with P value = 0.001. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that there is an effect of slow deep breathing on the blood pressure of the elderly with hypertension in the Al-Islah Blimbing Nursing Home, Malang City.
