Abstract

ABSTRACT Kii, Maria Ina. 2021. Relationship between Family Support and Adherence to a Low-Salt Diet in Patients with Systolic Hypertension at the Dinoyo Public Health Center, Malang City. Undergraduate Thesis. Nursing Education Study Program Widyagama Husada Health Sciences College. Advisors: 1) Dwi Soelistyoningsih, dr., M. Biomed. 2) Nicky Danur Jayanti, S.ST., M.KM. Background: Systolic hypertension is a condition of systolic blood pressure >140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure <90 mmHg. Compliance with a low-salt diet requires a long time so that family support is needed to achieve low-salt diet compliance in hypertension patients. Objectives: To analyze the relationship between family support and adherence to a low-salt diet in patients with systolic hypertension at the Dinoyo Public Health Center, Malang City. Research Methods: This type of research is descriptive correlation with a cross sectional approach. The research sample was 52 respondents using accidental sampling technique, with the inclusion criteria of respondents aged >18 years, systolic hypertension patients in the last three months at the Dinoyo Public Health Center, Malang City. The research instrument used a questionnaire and was analyzed using the Kendall's tau-b test. Findings: It was found that 22 respondents had family support in the good category (42.3%), had low-salt diet adherence as many as 30 (57.2%) respondents. From the results of statistical tests, it was found that there was a significant relationship (p = 0.000) of family support and adherence to a low salt diet in patients with systolic hypertension at the Dinoyo Public Health Center, Malang City, with a moderate correlation strength (r = 0.467). Conclusion: this research is a relationship between family support and adherence to a low-salt diet at the Dinoyo Public Health Center, Malang City, so it is important to improve adherence to a low-salt diet program for hypertension sufferers.
