Abstract

ABSTRACT Ferreira, Angela Dos Santos 2019. The Effectiveness of Snail Mucus (Achatina fulica) toward Healing Speed of Burn Injury Inflamation Degree II in White Rat (Rattus norvegicus). Thesis. Nursing Program of Widyagama Husada School of Health Malang. Advisors : (1) dr. Dwi Soelistyoningsih, M. Biomed. Advisors (2) Nurma Afiani, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep Background: Burns are injuries that occur as a result of touching the surface of the body with objects that produce heat, both direct and indirect contact. One anti-inflammatories that can be found in public is snail mucus. The use of snail mucus is expected to minimize the elongation of the inflammatory phase. Objective: To examine the effectiveness of snail mucus (Achatina fulica) toward healing speed of burn injury inflamation degree II in white rat (Rattus norvegicus). Method: This research used true experimental with post-test only controlled group design. The number of samples was 18 rats and were selected by simple random sampling. Rats are divided into groups of snail slime (Achatina fulica), and NaCl group 0,9%. The instrument used was an observation sheet. Analysis Test used unpaired independent t test. Results: Statistical test results showed lower erythema values using snail mucus compared to NaCl which means that there was a significant difference between snail mucus and NaCl (ρ=0.001). There was a decrease in diameter in the snail mucus group compared to the control group. Granulation tissue was obtained and there was no necrosis in the snail mucus group, while there was granulation tissue and necrosis in the NaCl group. Conclusion: Snail mucus (Achatina fulica) is effective to accelerate the healing of the inflammatory phase of degree II burns in white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Suggestion: Further research is expected to be carried out using snail mucus (Achatina fulica) as a degree II deep burn healing up to degree III or any other wound healing.
